Emmett Shear, the ex-Twitch boss has been appointed by OpenAI to lead the startup. The firm has recently fired Sam Altman as the CEO of the company and appointed the Chief Technology Officer as the temporary CEO. However, as per recent reports, Sam Altman is fully prepared to join the new advanced AI research team of Microsoft. The information was made public late Sunday by the CEO of Microsoft, the software giant.
Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft wrote on X, “We look forward to getting to know Emmett Shear and OAI’s new leadership team and working with them.” Moreover, he added that his company will remain committed to the collaboration they have with OpenAI.
Emmett Shear was given the position of interim CEO, as per an anonymous source telling Reuters. As per board members’s decisions not reinstating Altman as the Chief Executive Officer of the company might make a huge ruckus in the company. However, the firm feared that firing Altman might turn against the share sale of the company impacting the upcoming $86 billion share sale and could lead to a mass exodus of talent.
Sam Altman Joined Microsoft
Satya Nadella announced that Sam Altman would join the new advanced AI research team of Microsoft. Satya Nadella announced that Greg Brockman is also set to join Microsoft. As per earlier reports by Reuters, Altman was in intention to modify the company’s governance structure and was discussing a possible return to OpenAI. Moreover, he also considered launching a new AI venture before getting fired from the position of CEO of OpenAI.
Both Greg Brockman and Sam Altman stepped down as chairman from the board of OpenAI on Friday, which resulted in a part of the shuffling of the management later joined the executives on Sunday at the firm’s headquarters. On Sunday, Altman went to X and reshared Nadella’s message with the caption that read, “The mission continues.”

Employee Turnover Post Altman’s Dismissal
Emmett Shear co-founded Twitch. However, earlier this year, he stepped down from the live video streaming platform. After the dismissal of Altman from his position, numerous researchers including Szymon Sidor left the company. Various distraught employees left the company on Sunday shortly after the announcement of the appointment of the new CEO of the company, Emmett Shear.
