Nahay Khay Chhath Puja is officially here. Here the word Chhath means 6th in languages including Nepali, Maithili and Bhojpuri. The term is derived from the Sanskrit word Sashsthi meaning 6th day.
According to Hindu mythology, the festival of Chhath Puja will commence on Chaturthi Tithi and End on Saptami Tithi of Shukla Paksha during the month of Kartik. It is observed 4 days from Diwali. One of the most auspicious festivals in the states of Bihar, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
Chhath Puja 2023 Date
As per Hindu traditions, Nahay Khay Chhath Puja involves worshipping the Sun God or Lord Surya and started Yesterday i.e. 17 November. The festival is observed with a vrat or say fast along with the tradition of Nahay Khay on Chaturthi Thithi.
The next three days, devotees keep fast, and follow proper rules and regulations of self-discipline. On the 4th day, they perform Arghya to a rising sun or sunrise and end the fast.
This year i.e the muhurat for puja will start on 18 November at 9:53 AM and will end on 19 November at 7:50 AM. On the same day during the evening, sunset will happen at 5:22 PM, a time when Arghya will be offered to the setting sun. On 20 November all the festivities will be culminated.
As you know, Nahay Khay Chhath Puja is performed to Surya Dev as well as Chhathi Maiya. Ladies keep fast to seek blessings for their kids and loved ones. In the state of Bihar, Jharkhand the festival holds a great cultural significance. Additionally, as per ancient text and manuscript Lord Ram and his wife Sita observed the Chhath Maiya fast after 14 years of exile.
